Greetings MASHN Nurses,
As the school year is now in full swing, we are all working diligently every day to support our students' health needs. We answer questions from school staff and families while fostering healthy and thriving school communities. A crucial aspect of our role as nurses is advocacy—advocating for our patients and students, our communities, ourselves, and our profession. Nurses are among the most respected professions, and our voices carry weight and can make a real impact. We encourage you to consider ways to get involved:
1. Review the Maryland Healthcare Workforce Advocacy Legislative Toolkit, created by DNP student and Maryland nurse Jacob Carmichael. Be sure to click on the links and scroll through the helpful links and content.
2. Consider joining RNAction.org. The American Nurses Association's free outreach initiative offers an easy way to lend your voice.
MASHN is also sharing a recent update to the Maryland Department of Health/Maryland State Department of Education School Health Services Administration of Medication in Schools Guideline. Please refer to the attached letter from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) that outlines updates to medication expiration dates.
