MASHN extends a warm welcome to school nurses across Maryland. We are excited to share updates and educational and participation opportunities for fall 2025.

School nurses create environments where students can flourish, learn, and contribute to healthy, vibrant school communities. We safeguard public health, link students and families with health-related resources and services, reduce chronic absenteeism, and much more. Thank you for your dedication to supporting students, families, school staff, and colleagues.

Save the Date! The MASHN annual conference is set for Saturday, March 14, 2026. We're excited to return to the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville, Maryland, for an enriching day of learning and networking.  We extend a warm invitation to attend Set Sail: Trends and Treatments in School Nursing Practice. Topics will include dental emergencies and conditions, current research and trends in autism, and the public health impact of childhood immunizations.  Additional details will be posted soon on the MASHN website

Educational and learning opportunities

  1. Have you considered National Certified School Nurse certification? Scholarship applications are now open for the 2026 Exam Cycle. Applicants must be eligible to take the NCSN Exam, intend to take it in the upcoming year, and come from or serve a historically marginalized school population.  Learn more at NBCSN 2026 Scholarship Program
  2. The American Diabetes Association is sponsoring a free School Nurse Champion Summit on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, from 8 am to 1 p.m., at Children's National Hospital in the Conference Theatre.  To reserve your space at this free event for school nurses from DC, MD, and VA, sign up at diabetes.org/ChampionSummit.  More information is on the attached flyer.  The American Diabetes Association Safe at School campaign also hosts free brown bag webinars for school health staff.  Learn more and register at Safe at School Brown Bag Webinars
  3. The Allergy and Asthma Network provides helpful resources for Back to School on managing allergies and asthma, including Planning for School with Food Allergies and Managing Asthma at School
  4. The Maryland Department of Health's back-to-school Immunizations social media toolkit is available for anyone to download and use in their public campaigns; toolkits that focus on other health topics are also available.  Go to MDH - Social Media Education and Awareness Toolkits
  5. Advocacy is a key component of the NASN School Nurse Practice Framework.  The MASHN Board and Executive Committee continue a partnership with Public Policy Partners based in Annapolis.  This complements our existing partnership with the Maryland Nurses’ Association. Periodic updates will be shared throughout the year and at the annual membership meeting. Please contact MASHN at mdschoolnurses@gmail if you are interested in joining the Advocacy Committee

MASHN is excited about the upcoming school year and is eager to collaborate with school nurses statewide to offer educational opportunities, increase awareness of our significant work, and strengthen community ties and connections.
