We are very proud to congratulate 24 new NCSNs as part of the NBCSN Summer Class of 2020!

These Nurses used the quarantine to their advantage to gain in SCHOOL NURSING.

Hats off and thumbs up to:  Warren Buscemi, Nicole Cysneiros, Camilla Dacombe, Jonna DeBenedictis, Timothy Golson, Robin Gresock, Emily Griffith, Annette Grzybinski, Karin Hanger, Florence Hanssen, Nicole Hickey, Marguerite Jefferson, Deanna Johns, Laura Kutz, Martha Latona, Cynthia Lazzari, Diann Rocha, Laura Ruiz, Beth Shank, Karen Stark, Rebecca Tesch, Irada Waldron, Michelle Webster and Carla Young.

The NBCSN Board will also have a new MARYLAND Member

Congratulations to Keisha Simons Major MSN-Ed, RN, NCSN, Nurse Manager, Office of School Health, PG County for her appointment to the NBCSN Board as the Chair of the Recertification Committee!  She will assume her position in January.   It is really great to see another Maryland Nurse take a leadership position in a national organization.  Good luck during your term, Keisha!.

Recruitment Notice for Vacancy

After several years as liaison, I would like to announce that I would like to retire from NBCSN as a Maryland State Liaison.  I’ve overstayed my welcome and have learned that NBCSN likes to rotate these positions every 6 years.  With that in mind, I would like to seek a Nurse who may be interested in assuming the responsibilities of the state liaison.  Contact me at lymandk@gmail.com if interested.

The tasks for this position are not set in stone and you can really develop the role in whatever direction you see fitting.  During my tenure, I have strived to keep National Certification for School Nursing visible.  I have maintained a non-voting presence at the table of the MASHN Executive Board and provided written reports for meetings and articles for the newsletter.  I have assisted with displays, recruitment, and raising awareness at the state conventions and represented Maryland at the annual NASN National conferences.

Together with fellow liaison, Jan Brant, we were honored as the 2019 NBCSN Liaison(s) of the year.  Part of our accomplishment was due to the MD Nurses who responded to the call of National Certification.  We increased our numbers from 30 in the state in 2011 to its current number of 134!  There’s still so much more that can be done, but I’m happy to see that School Nurses are being highly regarded during this pandemic.  National Certification as a School Nurse is an achievement and is a process indicating an individual has met predetermined standards that recognize a specialized body of knowledge, skills, and experience.  Please consider taking on this role.

Thank you all.

Donna Lyman, MS, RN, NCSN
