Can you sew? Making Cloth Face Masks

Posted about 4 years ago by Kristy Gorman

On behalf of Rebecca Colt-Ferguson DNP, RN, School Nurse:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued guidance approving the use of cloth masks, and I am writing to ask that anyone who has sewing experience consider making cloth face masks.

The links below ( copy and paste) are with detailed instructions, including a video, for making fitted and folded masks. Also attached are examples of masks that have been made.

DIY Cloth Face Mask (fitted mask): https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Cloth-Face-Mask/

Folded Mask: https://sweetredpoppy.com/how-to-sew-a-surgical-face-mask/

Both of the websites listed above follow CDC guidelines and have links to the CDC website. Unlike the N95 masks, these are not designed to prevent COVID-19 entirely; however, they will prevent some transmission, and the CDC has approved them for use.

Once you have made the masks, please email Becky for her address to send them via mail: rcoltferguson@gmail.com
