Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Dr. Badaki-Makun’s overarching clinical and research focus is on the care of acutely ill or injured children. Her early research career centered on improving resuscitation outcomes in pediatric patients in cardiopulmonary arrest. For this early work, she was awarded both the American Academy of Pediatrics Ken Graff Young Investi- gator and the American Heart Association’s Resuscitation Science Symposium Young Investigator Awards. She continues her work in resuscitation in the clinical and educational arenas. Her recent research centers on enhanc- ing the diagnosis and management of acute complications in patients with sickle cell disease. She is the recipient of a K12 Career Development Award in Hematology for her research dedicated to enhancing the early diagnosis and management of acute chest syndrome in sickle cell patients using novel radiographic and serum biomark- ers. Dr. Badaki graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a degree in biology and her medical degree. She furthered her postgraduate studies at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland and completed her postdoctoral internships and residencies at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. She has held positions at George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, DC and the Children’s National Medical Center. She joined Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Baltimore, Maryland in 2013 as an attending physician. Since 2021, she has also been its Director of Research in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Nurse Attorney
Ms. Brous is a Nurse Attorney in private practice concentrating in professional licensure representation and nursing advocacy. She has practiced in major litigation law firms representing nurses at all levels of practice, physicians, other health care professionals, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies. Edie is admitted to practice before the bars of the state courts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the Southern and Eastern Districts of the New York Federal Courts and the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of many bar associations and nursing organizations and was the 2011 president of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Ms. Brous has an extensive clinical and managerial background in OR, Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. In addition to her law degree, she holds master’s degrees in public health and in Critical Care Nursing from Columbia University. She has been part time faculty at Columbia University and has held adjunct faculty positions at several universities teaching legal aspects of nursing. Ms. Brous has lectured and published extensively on legal issues for nurses and co-authored the textbook Law and Ethics for Advanced Practice Nurses. She is the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Advocate Award, the 2017 Outstanding Litigation Section Member Award, and the 2020 Outstanding Solo Practice Section Member Award from The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
Medical Director Medstar Ob/Gyn Ambulatory Physicians Practices at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center
Dr. Nicola London provides clinical and administrative oversight to the Baltimore MedStar Health/MedStar Medical Group’s ambulatory practices, coordinating and optimizing all clinical activities as its Regional Medi- cal Director for Ambulatory Obstetrics & Gynecology. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has won numerous research awards including the Award for Ultrasonic Prediction of IUGR. Dr. London earned her medical degree with honors from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine and completed both her internship and residency programs at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Dr. London specializes in obstetrics and gynecological medicine for women in adolescence to post-menopause, as well as high-risk preg- nancies, family planning, and minimally invasive surgery. Her special interests include bioidentical hormones. Certified in robotic surgery, she assists in training fellow physicians as a robotic proctor. As a frequent speaker, she enjoys giving talks on menopause. Dr. London practices both at Women’s Care at Bel Air and Women’s Care at Dundalk. Dr. London was named a 2019 “Top Doc” by Baltimore Magazine for general/high risk obstetrics.
In 1987, Robert became Maryland’s first male school nurse. This year he will celebrate 40 years as a Reg- istered Nurse. In his 35 plus years as a school nurse, he has worked at elementary, middle, high, and alter- native high schools. Currently he is a Supervisor with the Office of Health Services for Baltimore County Public Schools after recently coming out of retirement. He began as a presenter for NASN in 1989 advocat- ing for computers in the health suite. Throughout his career, he has presented at many State School Nurse Conferences on “Positively Impacting on the Education of Students with ADHD.” He represented NASN on a national research project “What Schools are Doing to Improve the Outcomes of Students with ADHD” funded by the US Department of Education and coordinated with the University of Kentucky, Louisville and co-presented at the Alfred E. Dupont Institute Special Education Symposium. As an adult with ADHD, he has learned to maximize the positive aspects of ADHD in his professional work. He has always advo- cated and is passionate about working with students with ADHD of all ages. He advocates that the potential contributions that these children can bring to society can only be realized if teachers and school staff provide support and educate both students and their families. He has been a lifelong resident of Maryland and is a father of three and grandfather of four.
Coordinator of Behavioral Pain Management at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital
Dr. Elizabeth Getzoff Testa is a pediatric psychologist and coordinator of the Behavioral Pain Program in the Division of Psychology and Neuropsychology at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH), Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Getzoff Testa earned her Ph.D from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio and completed a pre-doctoral internship at Mailman Center for Child Development in Miami, Florida and a postdoctoral fellowship at MWPH in Baltimore, Maryland. She served as the Coordinator of Psychology Services and Research for the Center of Pediatric Weight Management and Healthy Living. She published numerous papers and book chapters in pediatric obesity before becoming the coordinator of the Behavioral Pain Management Program at MWPH. Dr. Getzoff Testa has worked with national and local agencies to reduce health disparities. In addition to seeing children and families with chronic conditions at MWPH she also has a private practice where she continues her clinical, legislative, and advocacy interests.
Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician, Kennedy Krieger
Dr. Joyce Wong has been a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician in the Center for Development and Learning at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland since 2003. She completed her fellowship in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and her pediatric residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. She received her medical degree at SUNY Downstate, Brooklyn, New York. She sees children with learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental disorders (such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, intellectual disability), and mental health disorders. She teaches and is a preceptor to medical students, residents, and nurse practitioners. Aside from her clinical responsibilities, she is the Physician Champion for Kennedy Krieger Institute’s electronic record.
